John Woodhouse formed the Woodhouse Partnership 25 years ago…

Albert Einstein famously said “in the midst of every crisis, lies great opportunity”

In 1988 the Piper Alpha oil rig disaster shook the industry to its foundations in terms of understanding Risk and Risk Management, and the oil price crash of 1985 challenged the business models of economics, life cycle and value in asset management.

Our team of industry experts was developed to help organizations understand the connectivity between the business drivers, the integrity and sustainability and the risk management aspects.

1994
The Institute of Asset Management (IAM) is established

John Woodhouse becomes involved in the development of the Institute of Asset Management –
he is member number 1!

1995
The Woodhouse Partnership is formed

Together with a team of former senior managers of blue-chip organizations, including Shell, UK Atomic Energy Authority, the Royal Air Force, Philips and Kvaerner Engineering the Woodhouse Partnership is formed. 

1995
The MACRO Project

John leads the European R&D ‘MACRO
project (EU1488) on behalf of the UK government. This was a multi-industry collaboration to develop best practices in MAintenance Cost/Risk Optimisation

2002
At the forefront again...

John leads the development of the British Standards PAS 55 standard for the optimal management of physical assets which involved collaborations across 15 countries in 10 industry sectors (2002-2008) – the fastest ever selling standard in the world.

The Woodhouse Academy develops

2006
Development of the IAM Competencies Framework

The Woodhouse Partnership develops the world’s first Competencies Framework for Asset Management (on behalf of the IAM). Providing a comprehensive description of what asset management professionals should be able to do, know and understand, it is the only framework of its kind.

2007
Woodhouse launches DST Software

Decision Support Tools Ltd (DSTL), a division
of the Woodhouse Partnership, launches its award-winning software to address over 40 types of asset management decisions, ranging across the justification and optimal timing for capital investments, inspections, maintenance, testing, spares, shutdowns, modifications, renewals and decommissioning. 

2009
Strategic Asset Life-cycle Value Optimisation (SALVO)

The Woodhouse Partnership mobilised, managed and led the international SALVO collaboration project, researching and developing best practices in optimal
decision-making.  The SALVO Project was
a 4-year cross-sector R&D collaboration
that addressed best practices in decision-making for asset management. The results of the project combine the best of existing methods with human psychology, practical business processes and advanced analytics for targeting, evaluating and optimising asset interventions.

The SALVO Project was runner-up in the 2013 IET Innovation Award, a worldwide search for the best of creative talent and significant new developments.

Development of the ISO 55000 series begins

We represent the UK on the international standards, the 55000 series which now involves over 30 countries in consensus building about what is needed in good joined up asset management.  John was appointed a UK Principal Expert to the ISO TC251 Committee, taking PAS 55 to a full international standard. ISO 55000 was published in January 2014. We can help you implement ISO 55001 in your organization.

Developing and Maintaining a SAMP

The Woodhouse Partnership authors and sponsors the IAM guidance on strategic asset management planning: “Developing and Maintaining a Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP)”. Developed to provide guidance for organisations who manage physical assets, and who wish to put in place or improve an existing management system for asset management. It sets out a practical and pragmatic approach to the development of a SAMP or Asset Management Strategy, that will conform with ISO 55001 requirements and clarify priorities, align stakeholders and deliver the best possible value to the organization.

The awards roll in...

Four of our clients (HOFOR, ISA, INTERCOLOMBIA, and CTEEP) are honored by the IAM.  In addition, John Woodhouse, MD, is personally recognized with the presentation of the IAM President’s Award for over 20 years’ exceptional service to the Institute.

IET AM eLearning

We develop a brand new online course designed to meet the learning needs of engineers across the world for The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). The course, ‘Asset Management for Engineers’, takes the form of a modular online course that has been the product of an 18-month collaboration and is aligned to ISO 55000 standards for Asset Management and the Competency Framework and Asset Management ‘Landscape’ of the Institute of Asset Management (IAM).

Pursuing 'Excellence'

As IAM Project Director, John Woodhouse has been building on the existing IAM knowledge base on how to assess Asset Management Maturity, beyond the level of competence to reach 'Excellence'. The output includes revisions to the existing IAM 6-box model to create a new 10-box model, specifically designed to support the targeting, assessment, and recognition of excellence in asset management.

Robinson Medina

Damien Carter

Over his 28 plus year span in the industrial sectors with working technical backgrounds in Project & Construction Management, Asset Operations and Maintenance Reliability Management, and being certified in various courses of study; Damien has gained the knowledge and experience and has had proven successes throughout his tenure in the Oil, Gas, Petro-Chemical and Construction sectors. Establishing his-self in the various sectors, Damien’s first experience and success started in the Construction Sector in estimating engineering. This was the stepping stone for Damien and has paved the way for his passion and continued success in supporting People, Process, and Systems in an organization.

Damien has held positions in local, international and multi-national corporations and comes from a working background in the fields of environmental, operations, project and construction management, operations maintenance and reliability management, planning, supervisory management, and has proven his abilities to succeed in each field.

Richard Ardolino

Rich was an Engineer and Project Manager professional at the New York Power Authority for over 30-years. In addition to being the first Project Manager for the Niagara Project Upgrade, Rich rose to be the Vice President of Engineering having started in Operations Engineering decades earlier. Rich went on to be Vice President, Transmission and Substation at AECOM responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars in design and construction. Rich joined Woodhouse Partnership, North America and participates in aligning organization towards ISO 55000 and many reliability studies supporting DST.

George Galambos

George has over twenty-five years of experience as a consulting engineer providing design, planning, program and project management, and strategic asset management services for asset-intensive organizations in the Americas, Africa, and the Middle East. His primary focus has been in the public infrastructure sector; as a result, he has intimate knowledge of the assets, processes, and resources necessary to deliver and sustain safe, reliable services to the customers of public asset-owning organizations.

George has assisted organizations with the development of PAS 55, ISO 55000, and GFMAM AM Landscape aligned asset management systems (AMS), has performed gap analyses of their AMS against industry standards and best practices, and has guided them through the creation of strategic asset management plans (SAMPs), asset management plans (AMPs), AM policy and supporting documents. He has undertaken asset risk modelling to ascertain organizations’ capability to sustain their desired levels of service. George has performed asset health-informed lifecycle cost modelling and forecasting capital and operational expenditures over near and long-term planning horizons.

John Woodhouse

With 30 years’ experience in utilities, oil & gas, transport and other sectors, John is one of the most widely known experts in integrated asset management projects for some of the largest companies in the world.

John is a Founder and Life Fellow of the IAM; he has written 4 books, chaired the development of BSI PAS55 and represents the UK on the ISO55000 committee.

He also led the international MACRO and SALVO collaboration projects in optimised asset management decision-making.
