Do we really need more data?

In this article I look at a commonly
quoted “truth”: that good asset
management decisions always require
good data. This perception is responsible for massive
expenditure on asset condition assessment, history
capture and performance monitoring. Of course
competent asset management requires knowledge
of the assets, their characteristics and what to
do with them and to them. But how far does this
extend into specific decisions, such as when to
replace an asset or how many spares to hold?
