THE AM HANDBOOK – ASSET MANAGEMENT SYSTEM APPLICATION GUIDE – SCOPE Peter Jay, TWPL Principal Consultant and Fellow of The Institute of Asset Management (IAM), has led the work to produce the Asset Management System Application Guide. The purpose of the IAM Asset Management System Application Guide is to set out a practical and pragmatic approach that will help organisations on the asset management journey, to develop and put in place an asset management system that will not only achieve formal conformance with ISO 55001, but will enable and embed good practice as described in The IAM’s ‘Asset Management – an anatomy’ and supporting subject specific guidelines. This guide provides an agreed basis that is endorsed by the IAM for the application of AM systems, and provide some consistency and clarity for all working in this field, whether consultants or organisations. It includes discussion and recommendations on implementing ISO 55001 for a variety of scenarios, including integrating it with other management systems, such as ISO 9001 and the concept of an integrated management system approach. The guide provides the foundation of a new ‘handbook’ for asset management, that provides more depth and context for application of asset management than is provided in the ‘anatomy’, but builds upon it. It also cross references with relevant SSGs and other reference sources. It includes some industry examples and many examples of tips and pitfalls for those embarking on the asset management journey.
